Richard Britton

Richard Britton is a consultant on capital market development and related international regulatory
matters to a wide range of clients including the IMF and the World Bank, governments in
 emerging and developed markets, self regulatory organisations and trade associations.
In a 30 year career in global capital markets he initially worked for many years on trading floors as
 a broker in the global equity, US Treasury and Eurobond markets for Merrill Lynch.
Subsequently he worked for thirteen years at the UK Financial Services Authority and its predecessor body.
His responsibilities included the recognition and oversight of the London Stock Exchange and LIFFE, supervision  
of the self regulatory organisation for fund managers and a range of capital market policy matters,
domestic and international. He also spent two years in the Enforcement Division of the FSA.
He represented the FSA on the IOSCO standing committee on market regulation for four years, chaired the
IOSCO standing committee on investment firm regulation for two years and was a member of the Joint Forum.
He has represented the industry on various expert working parties set up by the EU Commission.
